The midshipmen’s life at the dormitory is led the by mutual interaction between the Commandant of Midshipmen? Honor Committee and Self-governing Command Service System.

The Honor Committee and Self-governing Command Service System are organizations for midshipmen who have to make decisions for themselves. Honor is the most important characteristic for a midshipman. Each organization helps midshipmen retain their honor as officer candidates.

Midshipmen fourth class (freshmen) learn to be obedient while midshipmen third class (sophomores) learns learn to are required to become a good role model. Midshipmen second class (juniors) have the freedom to make decisions for themselves, and midshipmen first class (seniors) learn how to become a good leader through taking part in various activities at the Naval Academy.

Liberty and vacation

Midshipmen are allowed to have two vacations per year. Likewise? liberty (going out of the campus) is given weekends. Occasionally? special leaves are given to midshipmen for several school events such as recruiting new freshmen as well as during national holidays.

Trainings and events

The midshipmen learn how to swim for a full week every summer. The last day of the swimming training program is reserved for a 4~6 kilometer swim in the sea.

Midshipmen also often get opportunities to exert their talents and energy in special events such as Ok-Po Je. In this festival‚ they participate in various kinds of performances and sports games as well as fancy receptions.

In order to enhance a cooperative spirit among the military-service academies‚ the Military‚ Naval and Airforce academies have special exchange programs.


Midshipmen have freedom to take part in various religious services at the church‚ cathedral and Buddhist temple‚ all located in the campus. Even though midshipmen do not have much free time‚ they often use their limited time to visit welfare facilities such as asylums for the old‚ orphanages and rehabilitation centers for the handicapped. On vacations‚ each religion hosts several special programs in order to guide midshipmen to have noble spirit and to satisfy their needs for religious activities.

Welfare facilities

The midshipmen live in a the dormitory? called Saebyeong Hall. Each room accommodates from 2 to 4 people. In addition, there are various kinds of amenities for midshipmen in the campus. For example, one can find a convenient store? snack bar? and bakery at Byeokpa Hall. There are also tennis courts, bowling alleys and beautiful trails for midshipmen. Moreover, the Naval Academy has gymnasium? a state-of-the-art academic information center? a barber shop? a post office and a large swimming pool.

Every room in the dormitory has access to the Internet. Therefore with the notebook computer provided to every incoming midshipman‚ lectures and other academic work can be conducted online. While taking advantage of this infra-structure, midshipmen can access a great amount of information necessary for their study.
